Shanti, Shanti, Shanti (Peace, Peace, Peace) |
Dear St. Paul Yoga Center Community,
Our last email communication to you went out just before the official start of spring and now it's fall. We're a solid six months into COVID, and this Friday it will be four months since the horrific murder of George Floyd. COVID reminded us that we are all connected. The brutal killing of George Floyd reminded us of how easy it is to forget that we are all connected.
One of the most fundamental principles of yoga is non-violence or non-harming. It is often said that practicing non-violence requires being non-violent in our thoughts, words, and deeds. What we think, say, and do are certainly important, but what we don't think, don't say, and don't do are also important. To practice non-violence well, we must examine sins of omission as well as sins of commission.
Perhaps the understanding that all things and all beings are connected--not on some theoretical level, but on a cellular level--is the ultimate message of yoga. This is our essence, and it is essential that we do everything we can to remember this and act on this every day. Forgetting our interconnected nature may, in fact, be the ultimate seed of suffering and violence in the world. Let's instead sow seeds of justice, inclusion, and fairness in our yoga practice and our lives. Let's nourish those seeds with compassion, kindness, and patience. |

Yoga Classes in the Time of COVID (and our first BOGO!) |
![]() |
We taught our first live-streamed yoga class on March 14th. Thanks to the dedication, generosity, and patience of our students, our yoga center has gotten by during these challenging times. We can't thank you enough! In case you haven't taken any yoga classes on Zoom, this platform allows teachers to be interactive with students. For those of you who haven't taken any Zoom classes with us, we're offering a Buy 1/Get 1 option to make it easier for you to try multiple classes online with us. Currently, our software doesn't allow us to easily create a promo code for this, so please email us to let us know that you want this offer: saintpaulyogacenter@hotmail.com We know that some people are struggling financially, because of the pandemic and for other reasons. We want the full benefits of yoga to be available for all. If the cost of our classes is a barrier for you or someone you know, please contact us so that we can offer options that are affordable and accessible. |

Learning about the historical and philosophical context of yoga can help us better understand how and what to practice. Given the 5000 years of yoga history, we can benefit from having a guide, someone who can bring these teachings to life and unpack the sometimes cryptic or seemingly contradictory teachings. These classes start Thurs., Oct. 1st, from 6:30-8:30 pm. You can sign up for an individual class or take the whole series (with a $15 discount for taking the whole series). William has taught yoga and yoga philosophy for over forty years! These classes promise to be thought-provoking and educational. Please join us! Save the Dates |
![]() |
This year has been one of many postponed, rescheduled, and canceled events. Our workshop with Julie Gudmestad that was originally planned for October of this year was canceled. We're happy to let you know that we have reserved dates in 2021 for Julie's next workshop: October 23-24, 2021. More information to follow. |
|
We hope you are safe and well and that you help others to feel safe and well (including those you may not feel close to). |
Peace to you in your yoga practice and your life. |
